Pop up learning took place between Monday 13th – Friday 17th June at Swansgate shopping centre in Wellingborough town centre with three lessons being delivered per day by subject specialists including Maths, English, Science, DT, Computing, PE, Music and Art.
A wide range of students from the Academy attended and represented the Academy throughout the week including students from all year groups from Years 7-11. Parents/carers were invited to attend the lesson and sit and complete the lesson with their son/daughter. This was well received, in total throughout the week we had 38 parents in attendance.
A selection of student’s artwork was on display alongside the pop-up classroom titled ‘Art in a time of Crisis – Pupils of Friars Academy respond to the war in Ukraine’ – This caught the attention of a number of the passing public who stopped to view the artwork and ask questions about the event.
The main purpose of the pop-up learning event was to raise awareness of the school within the local community, highlighting what we do at Friars, increasing parental engagement with learning and to create community links.
During the same week on Wednesday 15th June students in Year 11 hosted there second pop up restaurant, this time with an American diner theme, this was extremely well received with a number of staff and students family members in attendance.
